The path from concept to a licensed launch
BCXPesa isn't live yet, on purpose. Below is the honest, current-as-of-today plan for how it gets there — including the parts that aren't finished, because a real roadmap shows the whole road, not just the parts already walked.
Concept & product preview
Building and testing the actual product experience before committing capital or applying for anything.
Regulatory groundwork
Incorporating as a company limited by shares, registering with the Data Protection Commissioner, and confirming the right licence tier.
Liquidity partner selection
Evaluating licensed partners so BCXPesa can operate as an M-Pesa and technology layer without custodying funds directly.
Licence application
Submitting a broker licence application to the CMA — AML/CFT controls, a compliance officer, audited cybersecurity.
Limited pilot
A small pilot with waitlist members once licensed — real M-Pesa collection, real partner-executed conversions.
Public launch
Full public availability, with the BCX Card arriving later, once card-issuing partnerships are actually in place.
Concept & product preview
Building and testing the actual product experience before committing capital or applying for anything — this website, the wallet dashboard, the M-Pesa sandbox integration, and the mobile app concept.
Regulatory groundwork
Incorporating as a company limited by shares — required for any VASP licence category in Kenya — registering as a data controller with the ODPC, and confirming which licence tier fits.
Liquidity partner selection
Evaluating licensed liquidity partners so BCXPesa can operate as an M-Pesa and technology layer without custodying customer crypto or fiat directly.
Licence application
Submitting a broker licence application to the Capital Markets Authority — AML/CFT controls, a named compliance officer, and independently audited cybersecurity.
Limited pilot
A small pilot with waitlist members once licensed — real M-Pesa collection, real partner-executed conversions. BCXPesa still never holds customer funds directly at this stage.
Public launch
Full public availability, with the BCX Card arriving as its own later phase once card-issuing partnerships are in place — never before, and never assumed.
